Sea Turtle Recovery, STR, is a 501(c)(3) Non Profit Organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of sea turtles and providing public outreach. The Sea Turtle Recovery Center is a 4,000 square foot, state of the art facility located within the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo. STR’s life support system uses UV and ozone to provide a safe environment for the sea turtles to heal until they can be released.

Every sea turtle we save has the potential to contribute to their population and advance their species’ survival.

Mission
The Sea Turtle Recovery (STR) is dedicated to the rehabilitation, preservation and conservation of Sea Turtles. STR’s goal is to rehabilitate sick or injured Sea Turtles for their release back to the wild. The Sea Turtle Recovery also educates the public on the important ecological role of sea turtles, threats endangering them, and ways to protect their future.
