PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Public Schools has appointed a new food service provider for the school district.
Pomptonian Food Service, a family-owned, women-owned New Jersey business will be serving meals to the students for the 2024-25 school year.
The school district is required by law to put out a Request For Proposal (RFP) every five years for competitive contracting.
A committee, including two PTO members, reviewed the proposals and did walk throughs with the three companies. Pomptonian was awarded the contract.
They offer a culturally diverse menu throughout the year to keep the cafeteria interesting.
Students can choose from an expansive list of meal offerings to find their favorite entrée choice, a milk, and add their choice of fresh fruits and vegetables from the Farm Stand.
The supplier also partners with local vendors to offer fresh options while supporting community businesses.
Pomptonian’s Farm to Tray initiative offers local fresh fruit and vegetable of the month throughout the year.
They also work with Garden State on Your Plate, a farm-to-school initiative by the Princeton School Gardens Cooperative that brings chefs and farmers into the cafeteria to serve seasonal produce.
Pomptonian is also partnering with local organizations like Share my meals, to minimize food waste and support the community to fight food insecurity.
Founded in 1959 as a restaurant located in Cedar Grove Pomptonian currently serves over 100 school districts throughout New Jersey.
